Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw continues to set the pace when it comes to finding the net in the Barclays Women's Super League.

At the start of her fourth season at the Joie Stadium, our Jamaican striker now has 51 goals in the English top tier.

With 75 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions, Shaw is now City's record scorer too.

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, we will take a deeper dive into the numbers behind Shaw's incredible efficiency in front of goal.

While Black History Month importantly nods to the contributions of Black people in society throughout history, it also crucially salutes the ongoing outstanding achievements of Black people across all areas of life too.

In that spirit, Shaw's fantastic hit rate in a City shirt is definitely something worth honouring.

75

Shaw last season overtook Georgia Stanway as our top scorer ever.

The England midfielder had 67 before leaving for Bayern Munich in 2022, which Shaw flew past after just 82 matches.

As well as her 51 strikes in the league, Shaw has scored 7 goals in the League Cup, 13 in the FA Cup and four in the Champions League.

Lauren Hemp currently sits third on that list, with 66 City goals of her own.

51

That's Shaw's tally in the WSL - a whopping 15 more than anyone else in the division has managed since our striker's arrival in 2021.

Chelsea's Sam Kerr is the next most prolific, scoring 36 times, with Alessia Russo and Rachel Daly both scoring 31 in that timeframe.

Shaw's tally averages out at a goal every 83 minutes on the pitch, 12 minutes better than Kerr and the best amongst all players to score at least five times since the start of 2021/22.

She needed just 57 games to hit those 50 goals, which is the second fastest in WSL history - only behind her team-mate Vivianne Miedema.

Her excellence is perhaps best demonstrated by the fact that her xG in the WSL only amounts to 37 - so Shaw is outperforming the expected level for a striker receiving her chances by an incredible 14 goals.

21

Shaw enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24, going on to win the WSL Golden Boot with 21 strikes in just 18 games.

And the individual honours followed, such as being named Joie Player of the Season, FWA Footballer of the Year and WSL Player of the Season.

64

She's not just a finisher, with 13 assists in that time too.

That takes her total goal contributions in the WSL to 64, which again is the outstanding figure in the division.

She's been a key part of 14 more goals than anyone else in the WSL since 2021, with Hemp and Kerr both contributing to 48 strikes each.

2024

This calendar year has so far belonged to our striker.

Her 13 strikes is by far the most in the league, with the nearest most prolific scorers on eight.

That has included a hat-trick against Liverpool at the start of the year - her fifth in the division, seeing her tied with Miedema for most in its history.

Away from goal

While numbers help to illustrate just how prolific Shaw is, they can't always capture everything our striker is good at.

A spearhead in attack, Shaw does so much more than just finish off moves. Her hard work in and out of possession helps us retain the ball and press hard to win it back as soon as possible.

In total, she has completed 726 passes, put in 41 blocks and won 33 tackles in the WSL.
