Sheffield United were soundly beaten 3-1 by Blackburn Rovers at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night.

Two goals from Yuki Ohashi sandwiched Ryoya Morishita’s strike as the visitors went into the break with a 3-0 lead. The Blades fired back with a Harrison Burrows goal from close range but they were unable to chew further into Rovers’ advantage.

First Half

The Blades could hardly have asked for a better start and really should have been ahead inside the opening 30 seconds. Gustavo Hamer threaded an incisive through ball into the path of Tom Cannon, but under pressure from Atcheson, the forward dragged his effort wide of the post.

That early let-off seemed to spark the visitors into life. Knowing that victory was crucial to secure their safety, they began to apply pressure, winning a couple of quick-fire corners. Their breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Ōhashi was judged to be onside, calmly rounding Adam Davies before slotting into an unguarded net.

Sheffield United struggled to find any rhythm in response. Momentum remained elusive, and frustration began to show when Tanganga was booked for halting Montgomery’s progress. At the other end, Bamford tested Toth with a well-struck effort, but the goalkeeper reacted sharply, diving low to his left to preserve his side’s advantage.

The game slipped further away from the Blades before the break. Rovers doubled their lead on 32 minutes after a scramble in the box, with Morishita reacting quickest to convert the rebound after initial efforts from Alebiosu and Ohashi had been denied. Then, right on the stroke of half-time, Ohashi struck again, this time rising at the near post to head home Alebiosu’s cross and make it three.

Second Half

The interval prompted a major reshuffle from United, with Arblaster, Hjelde, Bindon, and Peck all introduced as the hosts switched shape in search of a way back. The changes brought renewed energy, and on 57 minutes, they found a lifeline. Harrison Burrows pulled a goal back, finishing from close range after Cannon provided the assist, moments after Toth had denied Hamer from distance.

Buoyed by the goal, United began to push forward with greater intent. Cannon remained heavily involved, first seeing a shot saved before heading wide from a second phase following a corner. The pressure continued to build as the clock ticked down, with Tanganga climbing highest to meet a Hamer free kick, only for Bindon, via a flick from Peck, to send his effort off target when well placed.

The full-time whistle went and there were a few murmurs and boos around Bramall Lane in their penultimate home match.
