Sheffield United and Birmingham City drew 0-0 at Bramall Lane to begin their Championship campaigns with a point apiece.

In the second minute Sam McCallum volleyed over from close range after a corner, setting the tone for a tight first half. Patrick Bamford then pulled a shot just wide from the centre of the box (26.).

Birmingham threatened through Paik Seung-ho, who glanced a header off target (28.), before Bright Osayi-Samuel drilled narrowly wide from the right side of the area (43.).

After the restart Tomoki Iwata fizzed a strike just over (48.). Sustained pressure brought a flurry of corners (52.), with Paik blasting high from the edge moments later (53.).

Michael Cooper kept the Blades level, saving Jay Stansfield's low drive (62.) and tipping over another effort from range (66.). After Tahith Chong and Tyrese Campbell were introduced (60.), the Blades rallied, and James Beadle denied Bamford's angled effort (75.).

Play was briefly halted for treatment to Ryan Oné (83.). Four minutes of stoppage time followed but neither side found a breakthrough.

Birmingham registered 10 attempts and eight corners. The Blades recorded three efforts and two corners.

Next, the Blades visit Swansea City. Birmingham host Bristol City.
