A number of Championship clubs are interested in signing defender Max Lowe from Sheffield United this summer.

That's according to a report from Football Insider, who say that the 27-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Bramall Lane come the end of the season.

Lowe joined Sheffield United back in the summer of 2020, signing from Derby County alongside his fellow Rams teammate Jayden Bogle, for a reported combined fee of £11million.

Since then however, the defender has been hampered by injuries throughout the majority of his time with the Blades.

In total, Lowe has made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire club, while he also spent time out on loan with Nottingham Forest during the 2020/21 campaign.

Now it seems as though the 27-year-old could once again be on the move come this summer.

Max Lowe attracting transfer interest

According to this latest update, several Championship are taking an interest in signing Lowe at the end of this season.

As things stand, the defender is set to be out of contract at Sheffield United once this season draws to a close.

That of course, means he will be available on a free transfer this summer, and it is thought that no decision has yet been made over whether he will be handed a new deal at Bramall Lane.

Because of that, there could be an opportunity for those Championship sides to make a move for Lowe on the cheap in the coming months.

Lowe has made just a handful of appearances for Sheffield United this season, amid those ongoing injury problems.

It has of course, been a frustrating campaign on the whole for the Blades. Following their promotion from the Championship last season, the Yorkshire club have long since been guaranteed to finish bottom of the table this season.

They have already set the record for the most goals (101 so far) conceded in the league. Sheffield United are set to finish their campaign on Sunday afternoon, when they host Tottenham at Bramall Lane.

Lowe could be a good signing for Championship club

It does feel as though the signing of Lowe could be a smart piece of business for teams currently in the Championship, providing he can stay fit.

The defender has been a part of promotion winning teams at second-tier level with both Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.

That shows just how good he can be for a team at this level, helping them to push on with their own potential hopes of reaching the top six.

Meanwhile, with his contract at Bramall Lane set to expire at the end of this season, the fact he is available on a free transfer could also make this something of a bargain for interested clubs.

At 27-years-old he also has plenty of time to be an asset for a club, and could generate something of a profit if sold on in the years to come as well.

Beyond that, Lowe does also offer some versatility that can be useful for a side, and so with all that in mind, it does feel as though Championship clubs should be working hard to sign the defender, if he does indeed leave Sheffield United in the coming months.
