Newcastle United striker Will Osula is on the verge of sealing a £30 million transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt, according to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.

The 22-year-old, who moved to St. James’ Park from Sheffield United last summer, has made a strong impression with his energy and physicality up front in his 22 appearances for the Magpies, and the Bundesliga club have moved decisively to secure his services before the transfer window shuts at 7PM British Standard Time.

This is great news for Sheffield United because they inserted a sell-on clause when Osula left Bramall Lane 12 months ago. That clause is expected to deliver a healthy percentage of the transfer fee, providing the Blades with a timely financial boost on deadline day.

Meanwhile, much of the attention at Bramall Lane is on Gustavo Hamer’s future, but also Tom Cannon’s immediate future is now in question. The forward, who joined United in January, has attracted loan interest from Preston North End, where he enjoyed a successful spell previously.

As reported by Alan Nixon, Preston are making a late push to bring him back on loan. United are open to the possibility of letting Cannon leave but are adamant that any club taking him on must cover his wages in full.

The situation leaves Ruben Selles with an important decision to make in the final few hours of the window. Should Cannon depart, United would be left light in attacking options with only Tyrese Campbell and Danny Ings, both of whom are injury prone, as their only senior strikers.

As highlighted by The Star, the Blades are already exploring potential late striker additions to avoid being caught short if Cannon moves on.

The Blades have already got some business done on deadline day with highly-rated 20-year-old midfielder Alex Matos arriving from Chelsea on a three-year deal.

United are also expected to announce the season-long loan signing of experienced Championship right-winger Chiedozie Ogbene from Ipswich Town.
