Chris Wilder has confirmed Sheffield United are looking to strengthen their squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline following Femi Seriki’s knee injury.

The Blades defender suffered the blow against Blackburn, with scan results showing he will be set for a spell on the sidelines.

However, Wilder admitted there remains uncertainty over how long Seriki could be out for, with the Sheffield United boss now looking to bring in cover in his position.

“Femi’s took a bang to his knee,” Wilder said.

“So that’s a disappointing one for us. So we’ve had the scan results back. It’s not as bad as what we first thought, but he’s obviously going to miss some football and he could miss a bit more really.

“So we’re in the dark a little bit on that. So that’s a position that we need to cover.

“We’ve got Matt Doherty there, who played really well on Tuesday night, not played a lot of football,” Wilder added.

“So for him to get 60-odd minutes there, but I think we needed to cover ourselves in that position. And hopefully we can do with the player that we’re looking to bring in.”

Sheffield United have completed a deal to bring Ben Brereton Diaz back to the club, with Wilder also targeting more additions to his squad before the window shuts.
