Sheffield United’s summer business may not be over just yet as we approach the final days of the window.

Ruben Selles’ side have not made a strong start, with the Blades losing all three of their opening fixtures, leaving them bottom of the Championship table.

But the Yorkshire outfit have until 7pm on Monday night to find any remaining players to add to the Spaniard’s squad.

One player that could prove a smart addition is Manuel Benson, with the Burnley forward potentially available given his lack of game time under Scott Parker.

When asked about possibly signing Benson, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, from Blades Ramble, claimed that he’d be very open to the move.

He believes adding a left-footed right-winger would make sense given Louie Barry is on the opposite flank in a similar role, and Danny Ings has strengthened the team through the middle.

“I’d definitely be having a look at Manuel Benson,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“He’s someone that we’ve spoken about in our circles.

“No solid links from what I understand, but doesn’t appear to be in Burnley’s plans and certainly coming off that right-hand side onto his left foot, something we do on the opposite side with Louie Barry, seems to be in keeping with the style we’re looking at.

“We’ve lost Kieffer Moore, he’s obviously doing quite well now at Wrexham, but that’s for more of a ground-based possession-heavy style in terms of working the ball into the box to the striker’s feet.

“Danny Ings should certainly help with that.

“An inside forward, like Manuel Benson appears to be, would be a solid addition.

“It’s certainly not one that I’d turn my nose up at if he became available and wanted to come.”

Next up for Sheffield United is a trip to face Middlesbrough on 30 August in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Manuel Benson would be risky for Sheffield United

Benson has fallen down the pecking order at Burnley in the last few years, and he managed just three appearances in the league last season.

His last impressive campaign saw him feature 33 times in the second division, contributing 11 goals and three assists as the Clarets won the title.

But that was during the 2022/23 season, and he hasn’t played much senior football since then. Benson, of course, showed richly-impressive quality at Championship level under Vincent Kompany, but his lack of regular action ever since has seen his stock fall somewhat and would mean any move for him will carry a real risk element.

The 28-year-old would need to be available at a very low cost for a deal with Burnley to be worthwhile for Sheffield United.
