One interested party proposed merging the two clubs, despite their huge rivalry.

They met in the Championship at Hillsborough on Sunday, with United comfortably winning 3-0.

Despite the derby win, the Blades remain in the relegation zone with 13 points from 16 matches.

United’s fortunes have declined since last season’s Championship play-off final defeat, with the club’s ownership facing scrutiny from supporters.

COH Sports’ interest in purchasing their rival club will further infuriate their fanbase.

Wednesday currently owes HMRC £1 million in unpaid taxes. They were placed into administration in October

The Owls were hit with a 12-point deduction for entering administration, with the club facing further points deductions over rule breaches

They are under several transfer embargoes imposed during Dejphon Chansiri’s reign due to late payments.

Despite the club’s current state, numerous parties are interested in taking over.

Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is considering a bid, but he hasn’t made a formal offer yet.

American billionaire John McEvoy is among the leading candidates. He already holds ownership stakes in the Nashville Predators (NHL) and Colorado Rockies (MLB).
