Are the good times coming back to Hillsborough?

Sheffield Wednesday fans have wanted the 2025-26 season to come to an end for a very long time, but there have been recent positive shoots on the pitch for the Owls to get excited about ahead of next season.

Without a win since September 20 in the Championship, when they won 2-0 away at Portsmouth in what may end up being their only success of the entire campaign, Wednesday have been hamstrung since the very start thanks to Dejphon Chansiri's financial misgivings, and it's only gotten worse throughout the campaign.

A failed takeover attempt from James Bord, whose extravagant £47.8 million bid looked good on paper but failed to materialise, knocked back the confidence of everyone at the club, and whilst the new process of David Storch's bid is taking time, the American is evidently very keen to get the deal done and become the new custodian of Hillsborough.

Henrik Pedersen looks likely to keep his job as head coach if Storch's bid through Arise Capital Partners goes through, and they are aiming for a May 1 completion due to the fact the Independent Football Regulator comes into effect on May 5, which could lead to further delays - and a few days prior to that, Wednesday's final home game of the season takes place against West Brom.

Sheffield Wednesday set for packed Hillsborough attendance v West Brom

Wednesday have two away games left against Middlesbrough and Oxford before they host the Baggies at Hillsborough, but it looks as though it's going to be a packed crowd in S6 for the club's final Championship game for the foreseeable future.

In a club update shared on April 20, Wednesday announced that due to the fact they had pretty much sold every potential seat available, they were to release a final extra 1,750 tickets for home supporters - some in the West Stand Lower underneath the visiting Albion fans, and also in the North Stand.

West Brom themselves have sold out their allocation in the top tier of the West Stand, where they will be backed by over 2,400 travelling supporters, and their Championship safety may still be on the line at that point, depending on whether or not the EFL are going to deduct the Midlands outfit points for breaching profit & sustainability rules for the 2024-25 season.

Wednesday have revealed that the Baggies game is set to be the highest-attended Owls fixture of the season, with some fan positivity perhaps returning after their recent struggles on and off the pitch, albeit their last three games have seen three points gained due to three draws in succession.

Sheffield Wednesday fans are desperate for David Storch takeover - West Brom game could be party atmosphere

Should Storch and Arise get the takeover done before the 12:30pm kick-off on May 2, then there's going to be a great atmosphere at Hillsborough as they head into next season.

Unless the maligned Chansiri comes to a noble agreement to reduce his debts, a 15-point deduction is coming for the Owls next season because Storch's bid is only £18 million and will not satisfy all creditors within the EFL's '25p in the pound' ruling, but that wouldn't be the end of the world as clubs have fought back from that before.

Leeds got to the third tier play-offs in 2008 after navigating their way through the very same deduction, and if Storch gets the takeover done and they are smart in the summer, there's no reason why Wednesday cannot do something similar.

Only time will tell as to whether Storch and Tom Costin can not only meet that soft deadline, but actually get the deal over the line, but they will be the most popular people in S6 if they do get it done and start to right the wrongs that were left by Chansiri.
