Sheffield Wednesday were recently hit with a 12-point deduction after the club entered administration last Friday.

The deduction leaves the club at the bottom of the Championship table on minus six points.

The Guardian now claims the Owls could face further points deductions this season over breaching English Football League (EFL) regulations.

However, in a boost for the club, the administrators are hopeful of a quick sale amid interest from several serious bidders.

Wednesday have failed to pay wages on time for five of the past seven months.

The Championship outfit could be docked points for the non-payment of wages in March, May, June, July and September.

It is expected the penalties of points deductions would be applied this season.

Wednesday are currently under five separate embargoes with the EFL over rule breaches.

They are not permitted to pay fees for players until the summer of 2027 after the club exceeded 30 days of late payments between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.

Wednesday players were in action at the weekend when they lost 2-1 to Oxford United at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Their single Championship win this campaign came against Portsmouth in September.

Wednesday supporters will be happy that Dejphin Chansiri’s unpopular reign has ended, but they face relegation to League One following points deductions.
