Sheffield Wednesday have been given huge boost in the form of financial support
Sheffield Wednesday were recently given a boost of income from a surprise source.
The Owls were placed into administration in late October and remain in that state now, with the search for their next owner still well and truly ongoing.
Dejphon Chansiri’s tumultuous reign as owner was brought to an end following this act, with multiple embargoes and a depleted squad remnants of the disastrous leadership he carried out at Hillsborough.
Players weren’t paid on time for five of the last seven months of the Thai businessman’s rule, with the club severely cash-strapped. Wednesday’s financial situation has improved somewhat since Chansiri’s exit, mainly due to supporters flocking to matches they were previously boycotting and deciding to buy the club’s merchandise once more.
It has now been revealed that another, more unlikely source of income was provided to the Owls during that period, which highlights just how strong their supporter base is.

During such a testing time for Wednesday, the club’s supporter base has shown resolve throughout.
From protests to boycotts, a large majority of the Hillsborough faithful came together to help end Chansiri’s rule and back their beloved side.
Some fans did this on quite a grand scale, with it reported by the Sheffield Star that an anonymous Sheffield Wednesday supporter responded to requests for financial support from the club by supplying the Owls with a seven-figure loan.
The loan is interest-free, which means that there is no financial gain involved for the fan who has temporarily parted with such a large sum of money.
This money will be repaid to the supporter once Wednesday is sold or by January 31, but the anonymous party accepted that if a buyer couldn’t be found to save the club, they would be liable to lose the capital lent.
The loan reportedly came about following work from the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust to engage a number of high-net-worth Owls supporters to safeguard the club in case potential parties didn't come forward to take the Steel City side out of administration.

This act of selfless funding highlights just how strong a supporter base Sheffield Wednesday have, and how it has carried them through such a tough time for the club.
With 11 parties reportedly interested in taking over the Owls, it seems almost certain that they will be under new ownership by the turn of the year.
This will mark the start of a new era at Hillsborough and one that should bring an end to the heartbreak suffered under Chansiri’s rule.
If Wednesday do begin to thrive under new leadership, it will pay back supporters such as the anonymous fan who has helped the Owls keep financially afloat during this period of time and prove that the investment was ultimately worth it.
