Sheffield Wednesday are set to be served with a winding-up petition, which would increase the pressure on owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club.
A tax bill to HMRC remains unpaid, and the Championship outfit will be hit with a winding-up petition in the coming days (h/t Daily Mail).
BBC Sport claims the Owls’ current tax bill amounts to £1 million.
Wednesday are already under five separate embargoes with the English Football League (EFL) after failing to pay wages on time in five of the past seven months.
Manager Danny Rohl left the club in July, with his assistant Henrik Pedersen taking over before the season started.
American businessman John Textor, whose company holds a majority stake in Botafogo and Olympique Lyonnais, has expressed an interest in buying the club.
But the two groups have failed to make progress, with Chansiri demanding an unrealistic asking price for a club he paid £40m for in 2015.
If the tax bill is not paid after the petition is issued, the controversial owner could be left with no option other than to put Wednesday into administration.
Such a move would likely result in points deduction for the Owls, who are 23rd in the Championship table after collecting six points from nine matches.
Wednesday supporters will hope Chansiri lowers his demands to make a sale possible, as entering administration would make it incredibly difficult for the club to avoid relegation.
