Hillsborough hosts the first Thursday night football of the new EFL campaign, as Sheffield Wednesday take on Bradford City in league action for the first time since February 2005.

Despite the unconventional time, over 31,000 are expected to be in attendance for the Owls' first home game of the campaign, as both Yorkshire rivals look to carry the momentum from their respective opening-day wins to go top of League One momentarily.

Wednesday were victorious at Leyton Orient last weekend, thanks mainly to a strong second-half showing. One main absence from the squad at Brisbane Road was Yan Valery, who many expected to harbour Championship interest this summer.

Speaking after the game on Saturday, Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen stated that Valery had reported tiredness after training, and he made the decision not to travel with him.

The Tunisian international spent the latter half of last season on loan at Swiss top-flight side Young Boys, and given his pedigree in the top-flight in England and France, there's understandably interest from clubs abroad and in the Championship. Therefore, his absence due to tiredness only stoked that exit speculation.

However, that speculation has been quelled somewhat after Valery was seen training with his Wednesday teammates ahead of the Bradford matchup on Thursday night in a video posted by the Owls social team.

Granted, the 27-year-old was training ahead of Leyton Orient before reporting tiredness, so this doesn't act as concrete proof he may be staying, but it indicates that more than not being in training at all would.

It's safe to say that Sheffield Wednesday fans weren't very pleased at the manner in which Valery wasn't involved at Leyton Orient. Football fans demand that players give it their all for the shirt, and being out due to tiredness seemed a bit of a lame reason.

Therefore, seeing him in training has prompted some sarcastic reactions from the Owls fanbase.

"Don’t do too much lads Yan gets tired easy," one Wednesday fan commented in reply to the Wednesday video.

"Has he had a nap now?" was one of the responses to Wednesday journalist Joe Crann pointing out Valery's presence on X. "Breaking news. Man goes to work," was another, indicating that, if not sarcastic, the reaction is relatively mundane, with the focus mainly being on players who want to be at the club.

Valery's quality for the level is undeniable, and if a move away from Hillsborough doesn't materialise over the coming weeks, he'll add quality to Henrik Pedersen's side in the third tier.

However, with the Owls looking to get back into the Championship as soon as possible in this new era, they'll need players committed to the cause, and if the Tunisian international wants a move away, Wednesday definitely shouldn't be standing in his way.

New owner David Storch took an indirect dig at Valery on X following the win against Leyton Orient, praising Max Lowe in response to a tweet stating "In a world full of Yan Valery's, be a Max Lowe."

Many took that as evidence that Valery could be off, but training footage this week may suggest he'll be staying put for the time being.

If he does stick around, he'll have a bit of making up to do to the Wednesday fans, as football fans rarely forget, but the levels he'll raise in the Owls squad in League One would go a long way towards that.
