West Brom owner Shilen Patel has said the club’s survival was no accident as he confirmed James Morrison as permanent head coach.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the former midfielder was placed in interim charge for the second time this season and third overall after a nine-game slump under Eric Ramsay.

Morrison responded with a 10-game unbeaten run that secured Championship safety.

Patel, who took over in 2024, had faced heavy criticism from supporters over managerial appointments. It initially looked as though Mason might succeed, but form dipped. Ramsay then failed to win in his nine matches, and handing Morrison the interim role proved the right call.

Patel thanked Morrison and his staff for steering Albion through adversity and bringing people together. He said Morrison’s growing leadership inspired and united the club, and that he embodies Albion and the standards expected by fans. The owner added that the head coach has the qualities to take West Brom forward and he is excited about a future with him leading the players.
