West Brom are edging closer to appointing James Morrison as their permanent head coach after a 10-game unbeaten run put them on the brink of Championship safety.

"All I'm concentrating on is getting to the end of the season. Realistically, there's going to be a lot of conversation. I'll give my thoughts and I'm sure the club will have their opinions. Let's just get to the end of the season and have a discussion." Morrison told ExpressAndStar.com.

The former midfielder stepped in as interim for the second time this season, and for a third spell overall, after Eric Ramsay's nine-game spell. Defeat in his first match was followed by him calling out some players, then an unbeaten sequence that underpinned survival.

A win over Watford last week appeared to make Albion safe, before an EFL points deduction meant they still needed a point against Ipswich. They collected it, confirming their status with one fixture to play.

Support for Morrison has grown, with former team-mates Shane Long and Gareth Barry saying he has done enough to take the job. A poll this week showed 96 per cent of fans want him appointed.

Albion visit Sheffield Wednesday on the final day. It is unclear if any agreement will be concluded before the weekend, but it is highly likely he will take the role on a full-time basis.
