As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, Shilen Patel insisted West Brom did not survive by accident as he confirmed James Morrison as the club’s permanent head coach.
The former midfielder was placed in interim charge for the second time this season and the third spell overall, after a nine-game winless run under Eric Ramsay. He then delivered a 10-game unbeaten run that secured Championship safety.
Morrison is the club’s third manager of the campaign, following Ryan Mason’s sacking and Ramsay’s brief tenure. Patel, who took over in 2024, faced heavy criticism from supporters over those appointments. Installing Morrison on an interim basis proved the right call.
Patel praised Morrison for guiding Albion through adversity, thanking him and his staff for helping to bring the club together.
“We did not survive by accident,” Patel said, adding that the appointment was deserved and that Morrison’s emerging leadership helped inspire and unite the club when it was most needed.
He said Morrison embodies the club, upholds the standards expected by fans, and has the qualities to take West Brom forward, adding that he is excited about the future under him.
