Jamal Musiala’s injury comes at the worst possible time for FC Bayern. The 23-year-old suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh while warming up before the Nations League match against the Netherlands. An initial prognosis regarding his recovery time is now available.
According to Sky, Musiala is expected to be out for three to four weeks. The attacking player has already left the German national team and is returning to Munich early.
This means Musiala is likely to be sidelined during an extremely intense stretch of the season. After the international break, the German record champions will play eight competitive matches in just 25 days.
For Munich, the timing of the injury is particularly bitter. Musiala had just worked his way back up to full training after dealing with health issues during preseason.
In the 7-0 win over Union Berlin, the attacking player played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season. With a goal and an assist, Musiala demonstrated just how important he can be to Bayern’s offensive play.
Now comes the next setback. If the three- to four-week layoff predicted by Sky is confirmed, Musiala is expected to be out for Munich until mid- or late October.
This puts the top Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig on October 17, among others, in jeopardy. Just four days later, another high-profile opponent awaits in the Champions League: Arsenal.

How many of the eight upcoming competitive matches Musiala will actually miss depends on his recovery progress. With muscle injuries, Bayern is unlikely to take any unnecessary risks—especially given how his season has gone so far.
A possible target date for his return could be late October. On October 31, Munich faces Borussia Dortmund in a Bundesliga showdown. However, it’s currently impossible to predict whether Musiala will be fully fit by then.
For Vincent Kompany, the absence certainly presents an additional challenge. Especially with the upcoming series of midweek matches, the Bayern coach would have needed his squad as complete as possible.
Musiala, on the other hand, must once again exercise patience. He was actually supposed to gain additional playing time with the German national team during the international break. Instead, he is now beginning another round of rehab—and Bayern Munich will be hoping that the projected three to four weeks do not turn into anything longer.
