Signed as starter, Vasco player now last in Diniz’s plans

Signed at the beginning of the year with high expectations, the Argentine attacking midfielder Benjamín Garré is currently experiencing a period of complete ostracism at Vasco da Gama. The player hasn’t set foot on the field for over a month and, with the arrival of new reinforcements, has become the last option for the offensive sector in coach Fernando Diniz’s squad.

The player hasn’t played for over a month

The last time Garré played was on August 10th, in the 1-1 draw with Atlético-MG. Since then, he hasn’t been used again. Under Fernando Diniz’s command, his participation has been minimal: just seven matches, none of them as a starter. This situation contrasts with the beginning of the year, when, under Fábio Carille, he managed a run of five games with the first team.

The main reason for his loss of space is an incompatibility with the coach’s style of play. The club’s internal assessment is that, although Garré has technical quality, he “lacks intensity and dynamism.” These two characteristics are considered essential and non-negotiable in the style of play implemented by Fernando Diniz.

Vasco’s major investment did not yield the expected return

The player’s ostracism highlights yet another high-risk investment that failed to deliver the expected return. Vasco committed to paying 2.5 million euros (about R$ 14.9 million at the time) for his signing. The contract also includes bonuses for targets such as goal involvement and number of matches, which are far from being reached.

The arrival of Andrés Gómez and Matheus França has therefore sealed the Argentine’s fate, who now finds himself at the very end of the queue for attacking options.
