“Significant offer” from super-rich club for Chelsea top earner could change Blues’ summer

With the Euros coming to an end, transfer season is warming up, and Chelsea are about to have a busy month buying and selling.

One player we know the club would love to shift is Kepa Arrizabalaga, a player who has been stuck on the books draining wages for years. Last year he was loaned out because there was no interest in taking him permanently, but this year we might be able to go one better.

His impressive salary has blocked any team in Europe taking him on, but Marca as quoted by Football Transfers say that there’s serious interest and a “significant offer” from Al Ittihad for the 29 year old, who clearly has no future in our first team.

Kepa has apparently asked for “time” before he makes a decision. The bookkeepers at Stamford Bridge will have their fingers crossed as they look over the salary tables for next year.

Chelsea already have two other senior goalkeepers on their books, so getting rid of Kepa now would be huge. It would certainly make us more confident that we’ve got a chance of making space for a signing in that same position this summer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga warms up.

A fantasy which could yet become reality

Whenever we have one of our players on big wages linked to Saudi Arabia – whether that’s Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling or Kepa – it always feels like a bit of a fantasy. Given that’s likely the only way to get them off the books permanently, it always sounds like wishful thinking.

But this report has a bit more substance to it, and Kepa is a big enough name that we can imagine the Saudis giving him a go, if the transfer fee is low enough. Maybe this time, the dream actually finally can come true at last…
