Newcastle United have added Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller to their summer transfer shortlist, per kicker.
The German is the latest name under consideration at St James’ Park, with Newcastle continuing to assess options capable of taking their midfield to another level.
Stuttgart are not actively looking to sell one of their most influential players, who has become the team’s on-field conductor.
However, they know they could face another battle to hold on to a star if Newcastle decide to make their interest concrete.
Stiller’s contract runs until 2028 and reportedly contains a release clause worth around €36.5 million.
Stuttgart can cancel that clause by paying around €2m, allowing them to negotiate from a much stronger position and demand a higher fee.
Newcastle are just monitoring the situation, with no formal approach yet.
Nevertheless, the Magpies have previously shown they are willing to move decisively for Bundesliga talent, and Stiller is firmly on their radar.
On paper, Stiller has every attribute to become an outstanding addition to the Newcastle ranks. He has been described as ‘one of the best number sixes Germany has.’
While Sandro Tonali is a top all-round midfielder, Stiller offers a level of tempo control and distribution that arguably surpasses him.
His ability to dictate the rhythm of matches, manipulate opposition pressing structures and punch line-breaking passes through the smallest gaps is among the very best in Europe.
The obvious question is whether those qualities would translate seamlessly to the Premier League’s relentless pace and physicality.
The Bundesliga often affords deep-lying playmakers more time than England’s top flight. Even so, elite football intelligence tends to travel well, and Stiller possesses that in abundance.
If Newcastle are looking for a midfielder capable of controlling games, the 25-year-old could prove to be one of the smartest signings of the summer.
