Sillah-Dibaga delivered an eye-catching Southampton debut in the FA Cup win over Leicester and, according to Sainstmarching.com, pledged on social media to keep working hard and contribute to the team.
The teenager replaced Sam Edozie after 62 minutes, quickly registering a right-footed shot on target. Hugging the touchline in a 4-2-3-1, he demanded the ball and drove at defenders, cutting back for Cameron Archer before creating further openings for Fin Azaz and Joe O’Brien-Whitmarsh. James Bree settled it in extra time for a 2-1 victory.
A standout for the Under-18s, he made 39 appearances with 11 goals and 11 assists. His trademark is to cut in from the left and find the far corner, and he often punishes loose passes out of defence.
After signing his first professional deal in the summer, he has scored two Premier League 2 goals for the Under-21s. One at Ipswich Town was a composed left-footed finish after breaking through, the other at Chelsea a low right-footed strike into the bottom left.
Coach Tonda Eckert knows the academy crop well and has sharpened his defensive instincts by using him as a wing-back for the Under-21s. In the cup tie he was freed of those duties and stayed positive and direct.
Post-match, he expressed delight at making his professional debut and said he is intent on improving daily, also thanking family, friends, team-mates and coaches. Born in Almería, he moved to England young to pursue his development.
