Southampton have been drawn away to Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round following their dogged win over Leicester City on Saturday.

According to Sainstmarching.com, fifth-round ties will be played on the weekend of Saturday seventh and Sunday eighth of March. Southampton were the second name out of the hat, landing a Premier League opponent away.

Fulham reached the final in 1975, losing 2-0 to West Ham United, their only appearance in the competition’s showpiece. They have made the semi-finals on several occasions, most recently in the 2001-02 season.

Southampton’s most recent FA Cup visit to Craven Cottage came in February 2017, in the third round. Mauricio Pellegrino’s side won 1-0, James Ward-Prowse scoring the decisive goal.

Earlier, in 1999, Southampton were knocked out in a third-round replay by Kevin Keegan’s Second Division Fulham, Barry Hayles striking late to complete a notable giant-killing.

Only two all-Premier League ties emerged from the draw, or three if Brentford progress past Macclesfield FC.

Fulham sit 12th in the Premier League and have lost their last three matches. Southampton may regret another away tie, but they avoided Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City with a quarter-final place on the line.
