Marco Silva expressed his disappointment after Fulham were denied a penalty during their 3-1 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The London side started brightly when Raul Jimenez gave them the lead in the third minute, but Villa quickly turned the game around.

Ollie Watkins equalised before goals from John McGinn and Emi Buendia sealed victory for Unai Emery’s men, leaving Fulham empty-handed.

The key moment came when Josh King’s effort struck Matty Cash on the arm inside the penalty area, but no spot-kick was awarded.

Manager questions key decisions

Speaking after the game, Silva refused to hold back his frustration at the refereeing decisions, particularly the failure to award a penalty.

“I will not make any comment. Everybody is going to talk. King was in a good position to punish them. I was watching the moments now, for me, they are incredible. I respect them and they can try to explain everything they need to explain, but we cannot understand,” he told Sky Sports.

He also felt Fulham should have had another penalty when goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez challenged Josh King inside the box.

“Very difficult, being Fulham manager or not, that the tackle from Martinez is not a penalty. If a player is tackled inside the box, it is a penalty everywhere in the world,” Silva said.

The manager defended King, who has already had two yellow cards this season, arguing that the forward had been harshly treated by officials.

“Six games in Premier League, we do not need anyone to educate Josh King. He is a good professional. Josh King already has two yellow cards and they disallowed one clear goal for him,” he added.

Fulham sit mid-table after six games

The defeat leaves Fulham 10th in the Premier League table with eight points collected from their opening six fixtures of the campaign.

Silva and his players will now aim to bounce back in their upcoming league fixtures to stay within reach of the top half.
