West Ham United’s interest in Sunderland winger Simon Adingra could be complicated after images appeared to show him wearing a protective walking boot at the Academy of Light, according to Sunderland Echo.

The 24-year-old returned from a loan at Monaco and has been linked with a move. Sky Sports previously reported that West Ham had made a loan enquiry as they look to add attacking options.

Photos circulating on Friday appeared to show the Ivory Coast international with a boot on his left foot. He is understood to have sustained a knock in the recent pre-season win over Wrexham after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Sunderland have not indicated the severity of the issue, and the boot could be precautionary. Any significant problem would naturally complicate the transfer picture.

Sunderland signed the former Brighton winger for around £20.5million last summer before sanctioning his temporary switch to Monaco in January. He recorded three goals and two assists in 17 appearances in France and has rejoined Régis Le Bris’ squad for pre-season, with his future and immediate fitness now under close watch.
