Monaco are keen to keep Simon Adingra after his loan, but are unlikely to trigger Sunderland’s purchase option, L’Equipe reports.

The Ivory Coast winger joined in January after limited minutes on Wearside. He made 16 appearances and 11 starts, most often at left wing-back.

The agreement contained a €17 million purchase clause and a €one million loan fee, around £14.8 million and £870,000. In a challenging climate, with reduced Ligue 1 TV money and uncertainty over Europe, the chances of a full buy are said to be very low.

Alternative solutions are being weighed, including a reduced fee or another loan, though Adingra is contracted to Sunderland until 2030. Wout Faes’ January switch from Leicester carried a €7.5 million option and Monaco would like to retain him without necessarily using it.

For Sunderland, Adingra’s next move will be closely watched this summer. He arrived with a strong reputation but did not fully establish himself before heading out in January. Monaco’s reluctance to pay the clause could prompt fresh talks if they want him to stay.
