Inter Milan have confirmed that Simone Inzaghi has left his position as head coach of the club.
It comes just three days after Inter’s 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final, having also missed out on the Serie A title to Napoli.
Inzaghi has been heavily linked with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal of late.
“The club and Simone Inzaghi’s paths separate,” Inter said in a statement. “This is the decision taken by mutual agreement after the meeting that took place a few minutes ago.
“Inzaghi’s management at Inter will be remembered by fans, players, managers and employees as being characterised by great passion, accompanied by professionalism and dedication.
“Six trophies: one Scudetto, two Coppa Italia and three Supercoppa Italiana, are the list of achievements gained in four seasons, which have brought the club back to the top of Italian and European football.
“Inzaghi is one of the coaches with the most games in the history of the Nerazzurri, together with other illustrious names including Herrera, Mancini, Trapattoni and Mourinho.
“Just like the other exclusive members of this group, Inzaghi has contributed significantly to the growth of Inter’s list of achievements and will forever go down in history as the coach who led us to the conquest of the second star.”
Reports suggest Inzaghi will now take the Al Hilal job, ahead of the Club World Cup in the USA this summer.
The 49-year-old has spent four years at Inter, having previously been manager of fellow Serie A club Lazio.
Among the favourites to replace Inzaghi at Inter are Como manager Cesc Fabregas, Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi, and Parma manager Cristian Chivu.
“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything,” Inzaghi said.
“I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri (Inter) fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments and laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together.
“I will never forget you.”
