Simone Inzaghi’s departure from Inter for Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal continues to be one of the most talked-about moves of the summer, and his agent Federico Pastorello has now offered fresh insight into the manager’s thinking.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, Pastorello revealed that the idea of leaving was considered for some time, but the final decision came only after the Champions League final.
“Inzaghi’s move to Al Hilal obviously wasn’t done in four days — there’s a lot of work behind it. We had already explored this kind of opportunity, but the truth is he never wanted to go into the details of a potential deal until certain things happened. He confided in me that if he had won the Champions League, he would never have left Inter. I can guarantee that the decision came after the final in Munich and after talks with the club’s management,” Pastorello said.
The agent went on to explain that while financial factors were involved, the move was also driven by Inzaghi’s desire for a fresh challenge. “Of course, the financial aspect played a role, but he also wanted to test himself abroad, and the Saudi league is one of the most important in the world — not just for its financial power, but also for its quality. Al Hilal is the biggest club in Asia, both for its history and its number of fans.”
Pastorello’s comments shed light on the manager’s mindset — a mix of professional ambition and timing. For Inzaghi, leaving Inter wasn’t about dissatisfaction, but about embracing a new chapter after nearly reaching the pinnacle of European football.
