Nicolas Jackson was suddenly the center of attentionin FC Bayern’s 4-1 home win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. The striker replaced the injured Harry Kane in the starting eleven and made the most of his opportunity with a goal. After the game, coach Vincent Kompany demonstratively stood in front of the attacker – and at the same time criticized the public debate surrounding individual players
Jackson has repeatedly faced criticism in recent months, making his performance against Gladbach all the more important, as he not only scored but also put in a committed performance
After the game, Kompany took the opportunity to publicly back his striker: „He played very well today. I have to say that since I arrived here, I have noticed that when everything is going well in the team, people always try to single out one or two players for no reason,“ explained the Bayern coach
The Belgian made it clear that, in his opinion, Jackson has been unfairly criticized: „The man has done nothing wrong, he has trained extremely well, he won the Africa Cup.“

Kompany sees a recurring pattern in the public assessment of individual players. „Somehow there are always stories about one player or another. Last season it was Serge Gnabry, sometimes Kingsley Coman, now it’s Nicolas Jackson,“ said the 39-year-old
Internally, however, the situation is much more relaxed. „The reality in our dressing room is that things are calm.“
At the same time, Kompany pointed out the enormous competition in Munich’s attack: „It’s true that it’s a bit difficult when Harry Kane plays in your position – or Michael Olise or Luis Díaz,“ explained the Bayern coach
Nevertheless, the coach was pleased with his striker’s performance: „Nico played very well today and will hopefully do so again soon.“
With his goal against Gladbach, Jackson certainly sent out an important signal – and showed that he can also be a valuable backup option for FC Bayern in the shadow of Kane and co
It remains to be seen whether and how things will continue with Jackson in the summer. His loan contract is coming to an end and, according to media reports, Bayern will not exercise the purchase option of €65 million.
