Jordi Osei-Tutu joined on loan from Arsenal during the promotion season, injuries curtailed his stay and he now plays for Bolton Wanderers. Lica arrived from Porto for £300,000 in 2016, made seven appearances, left after his deal was cancelled and joined Granada, then played for lower-tier Portuguese clubs before retiring this year at 37.

Pele signed on loan from Monaco in 2019, his nine league outings were a mixed bag, he later had other loans before retiring three years ago at 32. Federico Macheda’s 2016 loan from Cardiff City brought three games, he has since played in Italy, Türkiye and Cyprus and is now with Greek side Asteras Tripolis.

Ashkan Dejagah was Aitor Karanka’s deadline-day pick in January 2018, he made one substitute appearance before a knee injury ended his season, and he was released that summer at the end of his short-term deal. He later played in Iran and Qatar and retired in 2024, calling it a lifelong passion from street football to representing his country.

Kevin Gomis belongs to the single-appearance club. The Nice loanee featured once in 2014, then turned out for Dundee and French side Grand Quevilly, before retiring in 2020.
