Sjoeke Nusken has signed a contract extension at Chelsea, keeping her at the club until the summer of 2027.
It ends speculation over her future after she gave an interview to a German news outlet over the summer that hinted she was assessing her options.
She said at the time: “At the moment, I am currently at a good place at Chelsea to win titles. They also want me to extend,” adding: “Last year, things didn’t go quite as well as I had hoped. Let’s see how it goes this year. After that, we’ll see – there are a few doors open where I can go.”
The 24-year-old Germany international joined the Blues from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023, making her debut on the opening day of the season in a victory over Tottenham Hotspur. She quickly scored her first career hat-trick during a 4-2 league win over Brighton & Hove Albion in October 2023.
The midfielder made 38 appearances and scored 12 goals in all competitions during that first season as Chelsea won the Women’s Super League title, and then helped them to a domestic treble last season, making 36 appearances and scoring five goals across all competitions.
“I’m very happy to have another year at Chelsea, to stay another year with my team,” Nusken said in a press statement. “We have a big year coming up, and hopefully, we can achieve the Champions League title. We want to achieve a lot of things together.”
“We’re really pleased that Sjoeke has renewed with Chelsea,” added the club’s head of women’s football Paul Green. “She has been an important part of the success that we’ve had over the last couple of years, and we’re looking forward to seeing her contribute again in the current campaign.”
Nusken was nominated for the Ballon d’Or last year, finishing 25th in the list of the world’s best players.
At international level, Nusken has represented Germany through the age groups, and as a senior international has featured at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games, helping her nation to a bronze medal.
Nusken had said at the start of the season: “I think it’s always a good thing to be the favourite and to be one of the teams dominating the league. This is our aim, and this is why we are working hard every day on the pitch. We want to be this team.
“We want to be the winner in the league again. This is what we want to achieve.”
