Manchester United are reportedly making progress in their attempts to land Lecce youngster Patrick Dorgu in January.

The Red Devils have recently identified the 20-year-old as their priority target to bolster the left flank which has been weakened by the recurring absence of the injury-riddled Luke Shaw.

The Premier League giants were also hopeful of luring one between Alphonso Davies and Nuno Mendes, but fell short on both fronts, with the two stars reaching agreements with Bayern Munich and PSG respectively over new contracts.

Therefore, Man Utd turned to Dorgu, who might be relatively unsung on the English shores, but has been making waves in Serie A over the past year or so.

The Denmark international has now cemented himself as one of the best players at Lecce, and his teammate Nikola Krstovic described him as ‘incredible’ while comparing him to AC Milan star Theo Hernandez.

The Reds officials have been in Italy in recent days to negotiate an agreement with Lecce, in addition to discussing the potential sale of Alejandro Garnacho to Napoli.

While the Red Devils have put around €30 million on the table, the Serie A minnows insist on collecting €40 million. Otherwise, they would be happy to keep the rising star at the Via del Mare until the end of the season.

But according to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, the two clubs have been making progress in their talks. While they have yet to find a definitive accord, they have managed to close the gap, so could sort out a deal before the transfer deadline on February 3rd.

Moreover, the source reveals that Dorgu himself is ready to make the move, as he’s excited by the prospect of playing his football at Old Trafford.
