There is plenty of chatter coming out of Ibrox this week as Rangers continue to work on new additions to the squad. With Russell Martin now at the helm the club appears to be actively pursuing a number of targets across different positions. One of the standout names on the list is Max Aarons who is currently with Bournemouth. Reports suggest contact has been made between the two clubs and Sky Sports have confirmed that Rangers have registered interest in a potential loan move for the defender. However Bournemouth are believed to be holding out for a permanent transfer.
Aarons is no stranger to top level football having made over 100 appearances in the Premier League and remains a high quality right back option. Rangers are thought to be seeking serious competition and cover in that area and Aarons fits the bill. According to Ibrox Noise a verbal agreement may have already been reached between the player and the club which suggests personal terms will not be a problem. The real challenge lies in convincing Bournemouth to accept a deal that fits Rangers’ financial structure.
With the club reportedly working on multiple deals at once there is a sense that something has to give soon. Ibrox Noise recently claimed that up to four players could be arriving at Ibrox this summer and Aarons is believed to be one of the prime targets. The deal structure remains a sticking point but if Bournemouth show any flexibility there is hope that Rangers could pull off a major coup.
Aarons would bring Premier League experience and quality to a squad that is aiming to go one better in the coming campaign. Rangers need depth especially in the wide areas and someone of Aarons’ calibre would instantly lift the level at Ibrox. The board and manager appear united in pursuing the best available players and Aarons is certainly one of them.
Confirmation of the talks comes via a reliable external authority source which only adds weight to the speculation. Whether or not Bournemouth soften their stance remains to be seen but Rangers have made their move and the ball may now be in the south coast club’s court.
