Frank Lampard and Coventry City have been fired a warning by Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison, with Ipswich Town improving.
Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has fired a warning to Coventry City, with Ipswich Town defeating Frank Lampard's side prior to their 1-1 draw with Preston North End.
Frank Lampard and co. had won 11 of the last 12 games ahead of their 3-0 defeat at Portman Road, with 10-man Preston North End extending their winless run to two and now making it five wins in eight games for his side.
However, they remain 10 points clear of third-place Millwall in the Championship table, having also scored 51 goals in 20 games in the process. Sky Blues supporters will be desperate to return to winning ways swiftly, but the breathing room is very much there for Cov in their pursuit of automatic promotion.
This is Coventry's sixth season in the Championship since their promotion in 2019/20 from League One. However, it is also their first with a manager not named Mark Robins beginning a campaign. Having managed fifth, ninth, and fifth in the last three seasons, they are looking to go one better this time around.
The current winless run of two could soon become more, though, in what is an unforgiving league. Clinton Morrison spent two seasons with Coventry in the Championship from 2008 until 2010, and the Sky Sports pundit has had his say on their current situation.

Speaking via Sky Sports News' Soccer Special, Morrison outlined his thoughts on Coventry following dropped points in the last two matches. He said: “Nah, nothing to worry about. Frank has said many a time — this is the Championship.
“You expect Ipswich to be there or thereabouts. It’s a hard place to go to Ipswich. Because Ipswich haven’t made a brilliant start but they’ve spent a lot of money, they’ve got a brilliant manager in McKenna, and it’s starting to click at the moment.
“That should be a fortress, Portman Road. I was speaking to Jobi [McAnuff] before we came on air. Coventry had two of their best players missing, [Tatsuhiro] Sakamoto and [Victor] Torp.
“Those two are so key. In particular, Sakamoto. I’ve always said it with Coventry, they do lack a bit of pace at the back. But this can happen in the Championship.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Ipswich are there or thereabouts come the end of the season, and finish in one of them top two spots. I did predict, at the start of the season, they would be there.
“And they should be there, Jules, with the money that they’ve spent and the players that they’ve got there. Every team will have a little blip in the Championship.
“The run of games that Coventry have got at the moment are difficult. Away at Preston and, on the weekend, they’ve got Bristol City.
“Sakamoto is back and I think that’s a big plus. I think he’s key. But nothing to worry about with Coventry, for me, at the moment. But it is the Championship and it is an unpredictable league. That’s why we like it.”

Lampard confirmed Coventry City have injury concerns ahead of the weekend, and Tim Sherwood sent further advice to the 47-year-old regarding their need to get back to winning ways. He added: "It's really important to get back on the horse as quickly as possible.
"In this league, you can put a run together and you can be very, very dominant. And you just feel like you're never going to lose. If you start losing a few, then it's the exact same in reverse.
"So, I think it's really important for Frank. He will know exactly how important it is to get back on that horse."
With Bristol City (9th), Southampton (8th), and Ipswich Town (5th) all yet to come before 2026, Coventry have a real test of their nerve, character, and mettle — even with their healthy points cushion to the chasing pack at present.
