Andrey Santos was blamed for his slow reactions when Chelsea conceded to Liverpool yesterday.

John Barnes was doing punditry for Premier League Productions on the Chelsea – Liverpool game yesterday, and while most people focused on Filip Jorgensen’s failure to get a hand on Ryan Gravenberch’s early strike, the former Red thinks midfielder Andrey Santos was also at fault:
“Chelsea are in a good defensive position, but he [Santos] takes too long to come out. They have lots of men behind the ball, it’s a really good line,” Barnes said, while re-watching Liverpool’s opener yesterday.
“But from that position, Andrey Santos has to come five yards further forward, and he could have got closer to the shot. He looks four, five times at the space, but he’s too slow to come out,” Barnes added.
Santos was pretty quiet overall yesterday – it’s the kind of game where we’d like to see him really step up and excel, either offensively or defensively.
We were very close to a win, and a bit more decisive play from someone like Santos would have got us over the line. We hope our new coach can help get him to that next level.
Calum McFarlane thinks the Blues could have won the game, and he probably has a point.
Anyone who wants Xabi Alonso as Chelsea boss had a very positive week, although Fabrizio Romano has cooled the excitement a bit with his comments today.
