Smilla Holmberg made her debut for Arsenal last weekend and the Swedish star has credited her international teammate for helping with a quick transition.

Smilla Holmberg settling in

Arsenal signed Smilla Holmberg from Hammarby at the start of January and it has taken her no time at all to settle into life in London.

The Swede credited her international teammate, Stina Blackstenius, for helping her settle in so quick.

“It’s been a good week with nice training and lots to do and lots to settle into. But it has been fun and tomorrow I’m moving to my apartment, so it will be nice.

“I’ve not been here so long, but I think I’m settling in good. It’s nice to have Stina [Blackstenius] here helping me with everything. Tomorrow she will help me to move in with all my stuff. It has been very nice, so I’m very excited to keep living here.”

Arsenal were forced to turn off all of their comments on social media following the arrival of Holmberg.

There was a disappointing reaction from fans with ‘disgusting’ misogynistic comments filling the announcement.

Despite the reaction, Holmberg has remained fully focused on her football and she made her debut against Manchester United last weekend.

“Of course, disappointed with the result, but as I said, grateful for the opportunity from the coaches to play and thankful to all the players who have helped me this way before. Of course, it was fun to play in the highest level in the WSL.”

Although she came off the bench against United, Holmberg is still waiting to make her full debut for the Gunners.

Arsenal return to action this weekend with their first game in the FA Cup.

The Gunners enter the competition in the fourth round face a tough clash against fellow WSL side Aston Villa.

With Arsenal fully focused on catching up to Manchester City in the WSL, Renee Slegers may start a slightly weaker team against Villa on Sunday.

If Slegers does drop some of her stars, that may leave the door open for Holmberg.

The Swedish right back is expected to make her full debut in front of Villa in front of a home crowd and she is set to receive a warm welcome ahead of a tricky matchup.
