There's a shortage of attackers for Liverpool's first-team and one player is ready to join them.

With Alexander Isak's injury there is no denying Arne Slot was dealt a huge blow. Isak was the club's marquee signing in the summer. The Swede had been lined up to help create a dynasty at Anfield. And not just any dynasty but Slot's very own dynasty.

It was supposed to be the equivalent of Bob Paisley taking over from Bill Shankly and bringing in some of his own players like Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Graeme Sounness.

Unfortunately, things are not really turning out that way. Despite a dream debut season Slot's second campaign has turned into a disaster.

Liverpool may be unbeaten in 12 games, but they have only won five of those matches during the unbeaten run.

Slot's side is struggling to score goals consistently and they could do with some attacking reinforcements.

Which is exactly what could be coming their way very soon.

Slot has been a little bit more reticent to use the academy in comparison to Jurgen Klopp, who seemed to inspire confidence and trust with his young players.

The Dutchman is a lot more cautious and doesn't really risk giving youngsters a go. But something has to give. Slot cannot rely on just Hugo Ekitike alone in the next few months until Isak is back from his injury.

That's going to put a lot of strain on the Frenchman. He needs rest and recovery time, too.

Obviously, Liverpool could enter the transfer market. The January window is open and there are opportunities for Richard Hughes to exploit in order to reinforce the squad.

But this is also unlikely. Liverpool prefer to keep their powder dry until the summer window. There will be no lavish expenditure this month, unlike Manchester City who are bringing in Marc Guehi and have already signed Antoine Semenyo.

So Slot's last resort is to turn to the academy, where there is a young player who is ready to step up and join the first-team.

Keyrol Figueroa is still yet to play a first-team game but he has sat on the bench a few times. The 19-year-old is the son of Maynor Figueroa who was a cult hero at Wigan Athletic and Hull City in the Premier League and scored one of the greatest goals in the competition's history.

Keyrol has been in great form this season for Liverpool's U21 side. He has scored 10 goals in 11 matches so far, and has averaged a goal every 57 minutes on the pitch in the Premier League 2.

That brilliant run of form cannot be ignored. It's very obvious that Figueroa is ready to make the step up and he could easily be given a role in the club's first-team given the shortage of options at Slot's disposal.

Whether the Dutchman is actually willing to call him up and give Figueroa a chance to join the first-team remains to be seen.

He's ready but the call is always up to the head-coach.
