After losing to Everton over the weekend, Sonia Bompastor’s Chelsea team are looking for an immediate bounce back in the Champions League.

Chelsea’s French boss has no doubt about her squad’s ability and is fully confident ahead of Roma on Wednesday.

Sonia Bompastor has faith in Chelsea

Despite losing in the WSL for the first time in over a year, Chelsea are still a formidable team.

The Blues fell short to Everton last weekend as they failed to score in the league for the first time under Sonia Bompastor.

Although the WSL seems to be slipping away from them Chelsea, the team still has hope and they are keen to get back on track immediately in the Champions League.

“Even if the result [against Everton] was not the one we wanted to have at the weekend, our job is to make sure we win matches because we want to compete and to fight for trophies,” explained Bompastor. “Right now, what is important is for the players to stay confident.

“I’m fully confident, I know the quality I have in the squad. Sometimes, when you start to overthink about things, maybe you struggle a little bit more. We need to stay natural.”

Roma are top of the women’s Serie A but they have had less luck in the Champions League this season.

The Italians are all but out of Europe already with three losses in four games and Chelsea will be their toughest test yet.

Bompastor’s team on the other hand is still competing for a top eight finish and they have to win on Wednesday to guarantee a spot in the knockouts.

Chelsea will respect Roma

Although the two teams form vastly contradict each other, Sonia Bompastor thinks that could set up a tough game at Stamford Bridge.

“Coming into the game tomorrow, they have nothing to lose, so they will probably come with a lot of desire and want to win, so we can expect another tough match, and we will have to perform at our best.

“It doesn’t make any difference whether we play in the Champions League or in the league. Both competitions are at a high level. In terms of process, we prepare for every game in the best possible way we can.”

Chelsea need a win on Wednesday more than any other team in Europe and it would be a surprise to see them take anything other than three points away from the Roma clash.
