According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund centre-back Luca Reggiani could leave in January, a scenario that may revive Southampton’s late £10m deadline-day pursuit. The 18-year-old has struggled for minutes this season.
Deadline day brought Zach Abbott on loan from Nottingham Forest, though he is yet to feature. Keven Schlotterbeck also arrived from Augsburg as cover after Taylor Harwood-Bellis left Tonda Eckert and Co. for Aston Villa.
Reggiani has made one Bundesliga appearance and has not broken into Niko Kovac’s plans. AC Milan and Inter Milan are also viewed as potential destinations from his homeland.
Whether Southampton return is uncertain given their centre-back options. Schlotterbeck has nailed down a starting spot, with Nathan Wood alongside, while Abbott offers back-up.
Reggiani was not keen on moving to England in the summer and may prefer Italy. Even so, Southampton’s record with youngsters could appeal, and he featured in the Champions League at 18 with a clean sheet against Atalanta in February.
A permanent outlay feels unrealistic and a loan could be awkward with Abbott already in on loan. Any move may be likelier if promotion is secured, with January drawing near.
