Southampton boss Tonda Eckert expects Caspar Jander to be available for the south coast derby against Portsmouth after the international break.
The midfielder has been sidelined since suffering a quad injury during Saints’ pre-season win over Eastleigh in July and had initially been targeting a return against Wrexham this weekend.
However, Eckert says Jander needs another week before returning to training.
“Caspar needs one more week,” he said.
“He’s not going to be ready for tomorrow, but I am very sure that he will be involved in the first game after the break.”
That should put the 23-year-old in contention to face Portsmouth at St Mary’s on October 11.
Eckert also provided a positive update on Flynn Downes after the midfielder was taken off at half-time during last weekend’s 4-1 win over Bristol City.
“Flynn Downes is okay,” the Saints boss added.
