Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse was left frustrated after their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Villa won 1-0 thanks to Ross Barkley's first-half header.
Ward-Prowse said: "We knew this would be a good chance to get three points. They had one chance and one good goal and that has cost us in the end.
"We have not had time to look at them back but VAR is there for a reason and gives the correct answer but we can't focus on that. They had one chance and scored one good goal. We could have had a lot more in the game.
"It is one of those things, hopefully we will get one go our way soon.
"They have good quality, especially in forward areas and they can punish you and they did.
"Momentum is key but every team goes through that difficult spell during a season. It is important not to get disheartened by it. Hopefully the goals will come and we will get back up the table."
