Southampton FC's Sugawara completes Serie A loan exit | OneFootball

Southampton right-back Yukinari Sugawara has completed a deadline day loan move to Serie A side Cagliari, who hold an option to buy.

Italian media report that the clause is worth around €5.5 million.

Sugawara, 26, has not been in head coach Tonda Eckert's plans since returning from an extended break after playing for Japan at the World Cup.

He spent last season on loan at Bundesliga club Werder Bremen and has not featured in a matchday squad for Saints this campaign.

The defender has made 35 appearances for Southampton since joining from AZ Alkmaar in 2024.

Cagliari finished 14th in Serie A last season.

Southampton have also confirmed Cameron Archer's loan to Auxerre, while Damion Downs is expected to join MLS side St Louis on loan.
