That’s according to an update by the Southampton Echo’s Alfie House, who delivered an update to Saints supporters about the future of their star defender on X, following rumours the South Coast-based outfit are looking to bolster their backline before the transfer window slams shut.

Southampton have been touted with making a move for Anel Ahmedhodzic, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, with the former Sheffield United defender expected to depart Dutch outfit Feyenoord after just a year at the club.

That has raised doubts over whether interest in the 27-year-old could accelerate an exit for Harwood-Bellis, who once again has generated a lot of interest himself and could well depart.

So far this window, Harwood-Bellis has caught the eyes of quite a few clubs, with West Ham, as well as recently promoted outfits Coventry City and Hull City all keeping tabs over his situation.

And more recently, Harwood-Bellis is believed to be a target for Marco Silva’s Benfica, with journalist David Ornstein revealing that the Portuguese giant have lodged a €20m offer, although it has fallen short of the Saints’ valuation and been subsequently rejected.

His future remains very much up in the air during the final few weeks of the window though, but respected Southampton journalist Alfie House has given a reassuring update to supporters about where the land lies.

After the rumours about Southampton’s interest in Anel Ahmedhodzic started to circulate, Saints journalist Alfie House retweeted Fabrizio Romano’s tweet, offering his thoughts over a potential deal.

In his original tweet, House posted: “Makes a lot of sense as an option. Proven goal threat and previously a Championship Team of the Year player. Feyenoord paid £15m last year, so a potential bargain available.”

The reporter was then inundated with messages about Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ future, with many Saints supporters believing that because of the interest in Ahmedhodzic, then Harwood-Bellis’ exit must be close.

But House put a separate tweet underneath his Ahmedhodzic post, telling Southampton fans to ‘relax’ about Harwood-Bellis’ situation.

House added: “THB (Taylor Harwood-Bellis) situation is the same. If a huge offer comes in, and he wants to go, he’ll be sold, if it doesn’t, he won’t be. Relax.

There’s no doubt that this update on Taylor Harwood-Bellis is reassuring, with Southampton looking to ensure that they don’t sell their star defender on the cheap as interest piles in from many different suitors.

Reacting to the development, some Saints supporters are getting excited at the prospect of a Harwood-Bellis, Ahmedhodzic partnership in the heart of their defence.

Meanwhile, fellow Saints fan Jord echoed the same sentiment.

Kasim also believes the pair would compliment each other, labelling their partnership as ‘mental’ at Championship level.

But other Southampton supporters are still showing concern, with Saints fan Ray believing it will be difficult for the club to gain promotion this season as the squad is weaker compared to last term.

Southampton to face testing times over Taylor Harwood-Bellis future

It’s set to be an anxious few weeks for Southampton supporters to see how Taylor Harwood-Bellis’s future unfolds.

The potential of a sale remains, with David Ornstein revealing the Saints are open to moving on the defender for the right price, so his future at St Mary’s currently hinges on whether the club recieves an offer that is too good to refuse.

You can understand the frustration from Saints supporters about their transfer activity so far this summer, with the club losing the quality of Shea Charles and Ross Stewart to replace them with a 23-year-old Lewis Dobbin and a young loanee in Divin Mubama, who both have big pressure on their shoulders to hit the ground running at their new club.

Much more positivity would be generated among the fanbase if Harwood-Bellis was to stick around though, with a partnership of him and Ahmedhodzic likely to be one of the better ones in the division, with the Saints then able to build around that and be hopeful of getting into the promotion mix once again.

While the money would be appealing to take, there’s no denying Harwood-Bellis tremendously improves the Saints with his Championship
