Southampton lost 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday to fall to 20th in the table.
Leo Scienza has sent an emotional apology to Southampton fans following the team’s 2-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints had taken the lead through the 27-year-old in the 23rd minute, but goals from Ryan Alebiosu and Andri Gudjohnsen late in the second half saw the hosts seal all three points.
A stoppage time red card for Wellington added salt to the wound for the Hampshire outfit, who have fallen to 20th in the table and three points above the relegation zone with this result.
It has been a difficult start to the campaign for Will Still’s side, who were expected to be in the mix for automatic promotion this year.
But a winless run of four games, including now back-to-back losses, will see the pressure mount on the manager as that gap widens between them and the top two.

Scienza has apologised to Southampton supporters following the 2-1 loss at Ewood Park, acknowledging that their current form isn’t acceptable for the club.
The Brazilian has thanked the fans for their support through this difficult period, suggesting that the best way to move forward is by everyone sticking together.
“[Bad] situation for all of us, we have to do better, much better, but the only way of changing this is sticking together, for the club!” wrote Scienza, via his Instagram stories.
“Sorry for this moment and thank you for the endless support.”
Southampton suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, so were hoping they could fight for their place back in the top division straight away under Still.
But now the 33-year-old’s position at the club will be under increasing pressure, as the team continues to struggle for positive results.
The Saints have won just two games from their opening 12 fixtures, including on the opening day, meaning it is just one victory from their last 11.
Next up for Southampton is a home clash against seventh-place Preston North End on 1 November in a 3pm kick-off.

Football is a results business, and supporters will be restless if results aren’t coming, which is the case with Still at Southampton.
But their performances aren’t too bad, and they really should have more points based on the quality of chances they’ve created, as their draws against Middlesbrough, Derby County and Swansea City quite easily could've been wins had they held onto their one-goal leads in the former of those two, and found the net in the latter.
Some patience is needed, as Still has the quality as a coach to turn things around given what he's been able to achieve in the game despite his age, and the squad itself is good enough to be winning more regularly than they have been.
Sacking another manager isn’t the answer just yet, and it would be a particularly bad look for the Saints if they were once again searching for a new coach after going through Russell Martin and Ivan Juric in the last year.
