Southampton need a goalkeeper this summer despite Daniel Peretz transforming their season on loan from Bayern Munich. According to Sainstmarching.com, a €seven to €eight million option looks obvious, yet with Championship football confirmed for next season, other clubs are circling and the Saints must brace for his possible exit.
Three alternatives are on the table, and none matches Peretz. Anthony Patterson, 25, impressed at Millwall after a February loan from Sunderland, delivering 16 Championship appearances, seven clean sheets and a 73.6% save rate, plus a 7.27 FotMob rating. His loan ends on 30 June and, with Sunderland now in the Premier League, a permanent move at around £eight and a half million could be available.
Radek Vitek, 22, made 41 appearances for Bristol City, keeping 12 clean sheets across 3,690 minutes while on loan from Manchester United. His loan expires in June and a permanent deal has been mooted near £five point one million, though United have extended his contract to 2028 and are unlikely to sell cheaply.
Alex Palmer is the least convincing. He played 10 Championship matches for Ipswich Town, recording one clean sheet and a 64.3% save rate. Past West Brom form aside, those returns do not scream long-term answer.
An in-house option is 23-year-old Ollie Wright, outstanding on loan at Accrington Stanley and voted their player of the season. He saved a penalty on his League Two debut, then claimed the shirt after impressing against Grimsby Town. A 74% save rate and 10 clean sheets from 32 games underline promise, albeit at a different level.
Peretz remains the solution Southampton really want. His 76.3% save rate and seven clean sheets in 20 league matches set the standard, and Southampton should trigger the clause to end the uncertainty. If he departs, Patterson appears the most logical fit given his rating, experience and age.
