Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that he intends to include two leading members of his squad on his voting list for the upcoming Ballon d’Or award.
The subject of the Ballon d’Or, of course, has positioned itself front and centre in the headlines across world football over the last 24 hours.
This comes after the shortlist of candidates to secure the next ‘Golden Ball’ was unveiled.
Front and centre were a whole host of La Liga stars, including seven from Real Madrid, and two from Barcelona.
Speaking to the media in anticipation of Spain’s Nations League meeting with Serbia on Thursday night, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of La Roja’s Ballon d’Or contenders was put to the aforementioned Luis de la Fuente.
Specifically, the Spanish headmaster was asked which players he intends to afford his votes for the prize to.
And De la Fuente went on to point towards one member of the first-team ranks at Real Madrid, and one from Manchester City:
“Carvajal and Rodrigo would have to be two of them. I have them clear.
“I am happy for my work group, without them I would be nothing and it would be a great recognition of their work.”
