Spain’s players were gifted Lego replicas of the World Cup trophy after beating Argentina in the final.

The newly crowned champions could be seen carrying the (pre-built) Lego sets as they made their way out of the MetLife Stadium.

Lego are commercial partners with Fifa, who also awarded 30 ‘Super Bowl-style’ rings to 30 members of the Spain team.

Winner rings are a tradition in American sport, with the victors of the NBA Finals also famed for getting the bejewelled accessory as a prize.

Spain captain Rodri and head coach Luis de la Fuente received temporary rings immediately after the final. The 30 rings will then be custom-fitted and delivered at a later date.

Spain defender Marc Cucurella, meanwhile, is set to get a tattoo of his manager’s face somewhere on his body following a pre-World Cup bet.

“They made a mistake, but they are men of their word, and they will stick to their word — I am not too ugly, they will just need to find a part of their body which is not too visible,” De la Fuente said.

And Spain’s hero Ferran Torres believes “destiny was written” for he and his side after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final.

“I think in the end the goal came from 47m people [approximately the population of Spain], not just those of us that are here,” Torres said.

“Today destiny was written, it was made for us to win. We’re far from our people today but we tried to be as close as possible to them.

“Finals are hard. When you have [Lionel] Messi on the opposing team, you do get worried but we always backed ourselves and tried to show our football and I think we managed to do it once again.”
