The Spain v Argentina Finalissima, set for 27 March in Doha, has been placed on hold amid escalating regional missile strikes.

The Qatar Football Association said on Sunday it had halted events following US and Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory missile fire across the Arabian Peninsula, adding that new competition dates will be communicated in due course.

The Finalissima 2026, between European champions Spain and Copa América holders Argentina, was slated for Lusail Stadium, with Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi expected to feature.

Any decision to postpone or proceed rests with UEFA and Conmebol, the organisers of the fixture.

Middle Eastern countries have been on high alert since Saturday after US and Israeli air strikes aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities. In response, Iran has attacked American targets in the region, including in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
