Plaza Mayor in Castellón has again hosted Spain’s women’s national team Fan Zone, drawing crowds of all ages and proving a hit, as it did weeks earlier.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the installation is the first of its kind in Spain, themed around the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s women’s national team. Visitors found an official store, a photocall, gaming areas, assorted games and surprises, plus a three-a-side football pitch.
Supporters also got a close look at the trophies won by Sonia Bermúdez’s team, among them two UEFA Women’s Nations League titles and the World Cup lifted in Australia. Music and entertainers helped to keep the atmosphere lively through the day.
The city’s sports councillor, Maica Hurtado, attended and said Castellón is enjoying the build-up, noting strong turnout and visible support for the team. She added that the Fan Zone will reopen on Sunday from 11:00 to 14:30 and 17:00 to 20:00 in Plaza Mayor.
On Tuesday, the third of March, matchday for Spain against Iceland at SkyFi Castalia, the Fan Zone will move to Plaza Teodoro Izquierdo next to the stadium. It will run from 15:00 to 19:00 ahead of kick-off.
