While it is indeed too soon to judge, Real Madrid seem to be doing better under Alvaro Arbeloa than they were under Xabi Alonso.
While he did get off to a rough start by losing in the Copa del Rey, they have beaten Levante and AS Monaco after that debacle and looked fine in the UEFA Champions League clash midweek.
The headline, needless to say, was finding Vinicius Jr.’s best version on the night – something that has been missing all season.
Cadena SER journalist Tomas Roncero recently spoke out about Real Madrid’s situation and how he saw the current state with Alvaro Arbeloa via Mundo Deportivo.
He began by criticising Xabi Alonso’s plan and praising Arbeloa’s man-management so far.
“If this team has had anything in recent months, it has been an overdose of tactics, slate, information from the rivals and it has not worked.
“Arbeloa has felt what has worked throughout history in the club and has detected it.”
“Real Madrid has worked with an almost familiar concept, although it sounds a bit cheesy.
“Now the team has shorter possessions and many players who step on the area, which was what he did in Castilla and what we are seeing. At the moment, I think it’s going well,” he added.
Speaking on why Alonso’s ideas were always destined to fail at Real Madrid, he added,

“With Xabi Alonso, there was that exaggerated Madridism, but it was corseted.”
“It is very methodological, very scientific and that in Leverkusen can work, but in Real Madrid, you have to manage the best in the world, and it is another concept.
“You have to make sure that the players don’t get bored in training,” he added.
Speaking specifically on why a tactical manager cannot succeed at a club like Real Madrid, the Spanish journalist said,
“Do you think you have to tell Bellingham, Rodrygo and Vinicius how they should be placed on the field? What they want is to be happy and enjoy again.
“The goal is to be a ‘happy team’ again. From there, football flows. Xabi Alonso’s Rock & Roll remained in symphonic rock. Arbeloa doesn’t want to step on that puddle,” he added.
Finally, he gave his honest thoughts on Vinicius’ situation and whether the club should look to part ways with the star winger.
“If Vinicius was mentally low and there were a lot of offers, Real Madrid would still think about it. With matches like the other day, Real Madrid can’t sell it.
“You’re not going to make money with the money they give you, but you’re going to spend it on a star like Haaland,” he added.
Making his prediction on how the Real Madrid-Vinicius saga would end, the journalist said,
“If Real Madrid wins LaLiga and makes a good Champions League, the body will ask to stay with Vinicius. My opinion would be not to sell him because I want him on my team.”
