Sanchez has had a very good season to date, but after a poor performance in last weekend’s defeat against Arsenal he was surprisingly dropped for the win against Aston Villa.
Liam Rosenior opted to hand Filip Jorgensen a rare start, and the Dane did a reasonable job considering his lack of football.
Rosenior has stated he doesn’t work with a number one and decides his goalkeeper based on the opposition, which is certainly different to the norm.
Despite the improvement of Sanchez, many hold the belief the Blues need to upgrade on the Spaniard if they are going to challenge and win major honours.
Chelsea have talented youngster Mike Penders on their books, and reportedly the Belgian is the frontrunner to be first choice next season.
Penders is currently impressing on loan at Strasbourg, with Jorgensen and Sanchez set to battle it out for the rest of the season.
However, Jacobs has reported that within Chelsea they don’t actually see a lot of difference between the two keepers.
“Speaking to sources, I sense that Rosenior feels that Jorgensen is the one that is more comfortable coming out of his box more often,” he told Alex Goldberg on Twitch.
“Within Chelsea, I don’t think they feel there is a lot of difference between Jorgensen and Sanchez. Whoever starts in the next league game will be interesting.
“The arrival of Mike Penders in the summer could also complicate the goalkeeping situation.”
Rosenior revealed Sanchez had reacted in a positive way to being dropped, and it’ll be interesting to see who he picks for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Wrexham.
Penders is progressing well at Strasbourg, but it would be a huge decision to put him straight in at number one after just one season.
